High risk, confined space water solutions at Blackfriars Bridge Tideway Project.
MMP Marine & Inspection were recently called in to support Blackfriars Bridge Foreshore with a high risk and rescue confined tideway flume.
MMP Marine & Inspection are well versed when it comes to high risk and rescue projects - it’s a service we pride ourselves on, and one that we know we deliver with efficiency and the utmost safety. So, when we were approached to support Blackfriars Bridge Foreshore (for the second time!) to build a steel liner inside a lower sewer, we knew we had the perfect team for the job.
Blackfriars Bridge Tideway Site required a flume - the second flume of which MMP have worked on this year.
Installing the flume would call for high risk, confined space access from a highly experienced team. The work could only happen on low tides and at night, meaning meticulous attention to detail, necessary equipment and the right number of workers was paramount to ensure that the job was completed in the safest manner possible.
We opted for a nine person high risk and rescue confined space team - the same award-winning team from our recent success at Victoria Flume. This reputable award was secured for a mock confined space rescue in the tunnel, where our 9-strong team carried out a quick and safe rescue, including:
High water flow
All plant and equipment (including the flume) to pass safely through a single access hatch
Varying tide and flow rates
All equipment intrinsically safe to use within a hazardous environment
Of course, the team passed (and won!) with flying colours. There was no doubt that this was the team that we would use at Blackfriars.
The work on the Blackfriars tideway flume started in March 2021 - it’s now in full swing.
The team is now hard at work and hopes to finish the tideway flume by June 2021. Keep an eye out on our ‘blog’ page where we will share further updates once the project is complete!
